How to choose crutches

Underarm crutches are the usual choice for a temporary injury. Forearm crutches suit longer-term use and put less pressure on the armpits. For sizing, the top pad should sit 1.5–2 inches (about two finger-widths) below your armpit, and the hand grip should line up with your wrist crease when your arms hang relaxed. Check the weight capacity: most standard aluminum crutches are rated to 300–350 lb.
